When did you start coming to Yen Yoga & Fitness?

I came the first this past October.

What was your reason for starting? (Mind, Body, Health, etc)

Amy Routzahn is a friend and she posted an invitation on Facebook, “who’s going to join me Monday for some hot yoga?”  I had had a couple of glasses of wine, so I just jumped on it. Been coming ever since. It’s been a great structure for me.  I’ve never really been an exercise guy and I definitely wasn’t ever a yoga guy. But I always knew that I should be doing something to get into shape/get maintain my health.  This has been something that works for me and I’m really excited about it.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since becoming a member at Yen Yoga & Fitness?

A few things. Have lost about 30 pounds.  I can touch my toes (was always terrible at the “sit and reach” test). And I’ve completed all of the challenges so far!

What is your favorite class?

The class I am the happiest to see on my calendar is Restorative, for sure.  The most painful class, aka, the class most likely to cause actual tears is definitely Barre Fusion with Anna – it kicks my butt but is a great workout. The class that is the best of all worlds for fun, challenging, great teacher, and everything in one is 90-min Inspire with Emily.

Do you have any funny Yen moments you’d like to share, or any “meditations from the mat” moments?

I think I’ve already set the record for most things in the Yen lost and found, so I get teased about that and it’s kind of funny.  Every Cardio Barre class I’ve ever taken, both because I am so incredibly bad at the dance moves and because Matthew is freaking hilarious...also everything that Jan says in AAA totally cracks me up.

What advice or words of encouragement would you like to pass along to people who haven’t been to Yen Yoga & Fitness?

I would say that this is the place to try Yoga if you’re curious to try it for the first time.

This past December I went downstate for the holidays for a couple of weeks.  I wanted to keep up my yoga momentum and so I took a few yoga classes at a studio in East Lansing. Let’s just say it didn’t hold a candle to Yen and I’m glad my first experience was here. It seems like the key to exercising and being healthy is about finding a structure or a routine that works for you.  For me, Yen has been a fantastic fit so I encourage anyone looking to step it up in terms of fitness to give Yen a shot.
